Bridgeport Overpowers Bears, 189.250 - 184.325

Providence, RI - Led by Chelsey Binkley's (Marietta, GA) second-place finish on the floor exercise (9.550), the Brown gymnastics team fell to Bridgeport, 189.250 - 184.325 at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday afternoon.
Binkley led the Bears on the vault, bars, the floor and in the all-around in today's competition, but the Purple Knights hit nearly all their routines giving Bruno no room for errors. Binkley finished in sixth on the vault (9.3), fourth on the bars (9.425), second on the floor (9.550) and second in the all-around with a combined score of 36.975.
Bridgeport locked up first through fourth place finishes on the vault, while Brown's Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) tied Binkley with a 9.300 effort for sixth place. Sophomore Stephanie Albert (Sanibel, FL) and senior captain Sarah Durning (Roswell, GA) finished closely behind with a 9.150.
Albert was Bruno's top finisher on the beam, earning a 9.550 for fifth place. Sophomore Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt (Venice, CA) and Vida Rivera (Jackson Heights, NY) each tallied a 9.450 for sixth, while freshman Melissa Bowe (Barnstable, MA) posted a 9.050.
After Binkley's fourth place on bars, following behind was Rivera with a 9.375, senior Hannah Goldstein (New York, NY) with a 9.30 and Zanelli added a 9.075. The Purple Knights claimed first on the floor, but Binkley was right behind with a 9.550. Junior Whitney Diederich (Naperville, IL) had a 9.375 effort for sixth, and Goldstein turned in a 9.250.
Bridgeport's Lorraine Galow earned the all-around title with a 38.200. Binkley placed second (36.975), followed by Albert (36.425) and Zanelli (36.075).
Up next, the Bears will take on Southern Connecticut, the University of Rhode Island and Bridgeport at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14.
