Gymnastics Has Highest Team Finish At Ivy Classic

New Haven, CT - The Brown gymnastics team had its highest team finish in this afternoon's meet earning a 186.050 mark, finish fourth at the Ivy Gymnastics Classic. Yale placed first a 191.525 team score, while Cornell placed second with a 189.075 mark. Last year's Ivy Classic winner Pennsylvania came in third with a total team score of 188.525.

The Bears had a strong performance on vault, having freshman Sarah Durning (Roswell, GA) lead the Bears with a 9.55 for a fourth place finish. Junior Jessica McNell (Darien, CT) earned a 9.425 mark to round Brown's top finishers in the event.

Junior Sarah Cavett (Chattanooga, TN) matched her season best on the uneven bars earning a 9.700 while junior Amber Smith (Fort Myers, FL) had her best score a 9.575 mark.

The beam once again did the Bears in only having Smith and junior Mandi Baughman (Exeter, NH) turn in marks over 9.0. Smith recorded a 9.150 mark while Baughman finished with a 9.100.

Senior tri-captain Melissa Forziat (Garden City, NY) led the Bears on the floor exercise with a 9.650 mark while Smith finished the event with a 9.600. Turning in her season best on floor exercise Durning closed out the event with a 9.625 mark.

The Bears will return to action at home on Sunday, March 6th against West Chester at 1:00 p.m.. The meet will mark the final home competition for seniors Melissa Forziat, Maya Vandiveloo and Kelly Moran.
