Gymnastics Takes Second At 2002 Ivy Classic, Edged By Cornell

PROVIDENCE, RI - Cornell had four gymnasts place in the top six on the bars, led by Meghan Miller's first place 9.825, en route to a team score of 189.800, edging the Bears, who took second with a 188.175. Yale, the 2001 Ivy Champion, finished with a 188.000, taking third and Penn, took fourth with a 183.625.

Brown sophomore Jayne Finst led all competition, taking the individual all-around title with a 38.675. She also took first in the floor exercise with a 9.725 and in the beam with a 9.900. The Ivy record holder on the beam with a 9.925, she also took sixth in the vaulting competition with a 9.600 to lead the Bears. Cornell's Miller won the bars with a 9.825, and Yale's Jamie Green took first on the vault with a 9.750.

Brown had six other top-six finishers en route to the second place finish. On the vault, senior Jessica Buck took third with a 9.675, while classmate Kate Hirschmann-Levy placed fifth with a 9.650. Buck took third on the beam with a 9.650, followed by freshman Melissa Forziat, who took fourth with a 9.600. Forziat also placed second on the floor exercise with a 9.650, while Buck finished in fourth in the all-around competition with a 37.775.

The Bears continue action on Sunday, March 17, when they host the Bridgeport in their final home meet of the season. The contest begins at 1:00 p.m.
