Gymnatics Defeats Wisconsin-Stout at Arizona

Tucson, AZ - The Brown gymnastics team defeated Wisconsin-Scout in a tri-meet hosted at the University of Arizona on Friday evening with another outstanding score of 189.575. Arizona claimed first with a 195.700, followed by the Bears (189.575) and Wisconsin-Stout with a total of 183.825.
On the vault, Brown combined for a team score of 47.425 as sophomore Chesley Binkley (Marietta, GA) and rookie Carli Wiesenfeld (Atlanta, GA) earned the Bears' top score with a 9.525 for seventh place. Arizona locked up first through sixth place and was led by Deanne Graham's 9.875. Sophomore Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) posted a 9.475 for ninth, followed by Melissa Bowe's (Barnstable, MA) and Lauren Tucker's (Farmington Hills, MI) 9.450 finish for 10th.
Zanelli had a stellar performance on the bars, turning in a personal best 9.725 for second place. Brown also had a solid score from freshman Lilly Siems (Baltimore, MD), who also posted a personal best 9.400 for seventh place, as Bowe finished behind in eighth with a 9.375. Junior Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt (Venice, CA) and senior captain Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) both tallied a 9.175 for 10th, as Vida Rivera rounded out the scoring with a 9.025 as the squad earned a 46.850 on the event.
Sobuta carried the Bears on the beam, earning a 9.775 for a third place finish as Arizona's Briana Bergeson and Britnie Jones recorded a 9.900 for first place finishes. The Bears' Binkley and freshman Katie Goddard (Kings Park, NY) earned a 9.625 for 10th place, and Zanelli posted a 9.375 followed by Tucker with a 9.125 as the Bears combined for a 47.525
Arizona continued to show its depth on the floor, earning first through sixth place finishes, including four personal bests. Rebecca Cardenas and Sarah Tomczyk posted a 9.925 for career highs, while Deanna Graham came in third with a personal best 9.875. Brown's Binkley earned the team's top finish with a 9.725 for ninth, followed by Goddard with a personal best 9.725 and Tucker with a personal best 9.650. Zanelli finished in 13th overall with a 9.425, as Helen Segal earned a 9.250 and Whitney Diederich (Naperville, IL) posted a 9.050 to help the Bears to a 47.775.
In the all-around, Wisconsin-Stout's Meghan Hargens tallied a 38.450, followed by Zanelli with a personal high of 38.000. Arizona's Colleen Fisher recorded a 37.650 and Wisconsin's Jenna Lensing combined for a 36.375.
The Bears are back in action on Friday, Feb. 20, when it takes on Missouri, West Virginia and Oklahoma in Norman, OK.
