Gymnastics Defeats West Chester in Today's Meet

West Chester, PA - The Brown gymnastics team defeated West Chester and fell .05 short of first place to Southern Connecticut on Sunday afternoon. SCSU won the meet with a combined score of 185.300, followed by Brown's 185.250 and West Chester in third with a 178.300.

On the vault, Southern Connecticut locked up first through third place finishes, but Brown's Lilly Siems (Baltimore, MD) and sophomore Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) secured fifth with a 9.400. Freshman Carli Wiesenfeld (Atlanta, GA) and sophomore Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) each posted a 9.350 to eighth place and freshman Melissa Bowe (Barnstable, MA) turned in a 9.300 for 11th as the team tallied a total score of 46.800.

Brown secured third through fifth place finishes on the bars, and was led by Bowe's 9.475 for third place. Zanelli's 9.400 was good for fourth, and Siems earned a 9.275 for fifth. Also giving a solid effort was Wiesenfel with a 9.174 for ninth and Vida Rivera (Jackson Heights, NY) with a 9.100 for 10th as Brown combined for a 46.425.

Wiesenfeld earned the beam title with a stellar 9.600, followed by Zanelli with a 9.575 for second place. Southern Connecticut secured the third and fourth place spots, but Brown's Lauren Tucker (Farmington Hills, MI) earned fifth with a 9.050 to help Brown win the even with a total score of 46.025.

Goddard earned the title on the floor exercise with a 9.575, followed by Binkley's third-place finish with a 9.375. Senior Whitney Diederich (Naperville, IL) earned fifth with a 9.300 and Helen Segal (Los Altos, CA) finished with a 9.000 for 11th.

In the all-around, Wiesenfeld earned the title with a total of 36.550, followed by Siems with a 36.375. West Chester's Alli Aquila came in third with a 36.275.
