Providence, RI - Freshman Alicia Sacramone's (Winchester, MA) two first-place finishes on Sunday afternoon helped Brown finish second in its first home meet of the season against Cornell, Cortland and MIT. Cornell took first with a score of 186.675, then Brown (185.500), Cortland (178.125) and MIT finished in fourth with a 177.550.
The Bears blew the competition away on the beam, earning a team score of 46.800 as the Bears captured first, second and third place finishes. Sacramone earned first place with a stellar 9.850, as sophomore Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) followed closely behind with a 9.750 to earn second. Freshman Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt (Venice, CA) secured third place with a 9.500.
On the bars, Brown took second behind Cornell with a 45.175, but Sacramone was able to take first with a 9.775. The Bears placed third on the vault with a 46.525, but freshman Alanna Kwoka (San Mateo, CA) nailed her vault for a 9.675 earning first place. Sobuta also finished third with a 9.625.
Brown took third on the floor with a team score of 47, as Cornell came in first with a 48.300. Both Sobuta and Kwoka earned a 9.6. In the all-around, the Bears captured the top two spots, with Sobuta finishing first with a 37.775 and Kirkham-Lewitt placing second with a 37.25. Kwoka earned a 36.45, which put her in fourth.
Brown will travel to Cambridge to take on MIT on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a 1 p.m. competition.
