The Brown women's gymnastics team opened the 2003 season on Saturday at UNH, also competing against Rutgers and Yale. The Bears finished in fourth with a score of 184.600. UNH won the meet with a 193.900, while Rutgers took second with a 190.850 and Yale rounded out the competition with a 188.200.
Junior Gina Verge led the Bears on the vault with a 9.425, good for 14th overall. Verge also had Brown's high score on the bars, scoring a 9.475, taking 12th in that event. Junior Jayne Finst, who owns the school record on the beam, took fifth on that event with a 9.625, while freshman Amber Smith was the top finisher on the floor, scoring a 9.500. In the all-around competition, Finst earned fifth place with a 37.475. Smith and Verge also competed in the all-around, scoring a 35.925 and 35.750 respectively.
The Bears continue action on Wednesday, January 15, when they travel to MIT for a dual meet, which begins at 7:00 p.m.
