Mitchell Leads Gymnastics to First Place at Springfield with 193.425

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Jorden Mitchell claimed first in the all-around and won event titles on vault, beam, and floor to lead Brown University gymnastics to a first-place finish with a 193.425 at Springfield College with SUNY Cortland and Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon at Blake Arena.

Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) captured the all-around with a season-high 38.875 while winning event titles on vault (9.775), beam (9.775), and floor (9.850). Junior Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) took first on bars (9.700).

The Bears earned their second team win of the season and matched their team season high score at the quad meet. Springfield (189.050) came in second, RIC (182.575) placed third, and SUNY Cortland finished fourth (188.425).

As a team, Brown scored a 48.300 on vault, a 47.900 on bars, a 48.550 on beam, and a 48.675 on floor.

On vault, Mitchell gained first place, tying her season high with a 9.775. Sophomore Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) and freshman Anne Christman (Amherst, N.H.) each tied her season high with a 9.725 and 9.675 respectively with Green coming in second place. Olson and sophomore Cassidy Jung (San Marino, Calif.) posted a 9.575 and 9.550 apiece.

Olson paced the Bears on bars with a season-high 9.700 for first place while junior Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) scored a 9.650 for second place. Junior Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) came in third with a 9.600. Freshman Ally Rudd (Olympia, Wash.) and Mitchell rounded out the scoring with a 9.475 apiece.

Mitchell led Brown on beam with a first-place 9.775, junior Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) placed second with a 9.750, and Green came in third with a 9.700. Ryan and sophomore Morgan Hagenbuch (Norwich, N.Y.) added a 9.675 and 9.650 respectively.

On floor, Mitchell won the event with a season-high 9.850. Green and Christman both notched season highs as each scored a 9.775 to tie for second. McAvoy logged a career-best 9.700, and Hagenbuch chipped in a 9.575.

Next, Brown hosts the 2017 ECAC Division I Women's Gymnastics Championship at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday, March 18 at noon.
