NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Anya Olson won the all-around with a personal-best 38.550, but Brown University gymnastics dropped a 193.500 to 192.225 decision to Yale University in a dual meet at the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Saturday afternoon.
Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) surpassed her previous career-high all-around score of 37.650 while senior Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) came in second in the all-around with a 38.075. Morant won the vault title – her second of the year – with a 9.775 while leading Brown on vault, bars, and floor.
As a team, the Bears scored a season-high 48.475 on bars while posting a 47.775 on vault, 48.400 on beam, and 47.575 on floor.
Morant took first on vault with her 9.775 while freshmen Ally Rudd (Olympia, Wash.) and Anne Christman (Amherst, N.H.) supported her with a 9.600 and 9.500 respectively. Olson tallied a 9.475, and freshman Erin Howell (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) scored a 9.425.
On bars, Morant paced the Bears with a season-high 9.800 for third place, and junior Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) followed her with a personal-best 9.750. Olson, Howell, and Rudd registered a 9.700, 9.650, and 9.575 apiece with Rudd tallying a season-high score.
Making her season debut, senior Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) tied her career high with a 9.800 on beam, finishing in second place. Junior Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) logged a season-high 9.750 for third while sophomore Cassidy Jung (San Marino, Calif.) recorded a 9.650. Sophomore Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) and Olson each notched a 9.600 with Olson charting a season best.
On floor, Morant came in second place with a 9.800 while Olson placed third behind a personal-record 9.775. Christman and sophomore Morgan Hagenbuch (Norwich, N.Y.) added a 9.575 and 9.375 respectively.
Next, Brown hosts Rhode Island College, Southern Connecticut State, and the University of Rhode Island on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 1:00 p.m. in its final regular season home meet at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
