Gymnastics Finishes in Tie for Second at ECAC Championship with 193.550

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Brown University gymnastics finished in a tie for second place at the 2016 ECAC Championship with a score of 193.550, and the Bears collected 12 All-ECAC honors at William & Mary's Kaplan Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Cornell won the meet with a 193.925 while the host Tribe matched Brown's score with a 193.550 of its own. Penn (193.050), Temple (192.525), and Yale (192.150) filled out the team standings.

As a team, the Bears boasted six student-athletes who earned a total of 12 All-ECAC honors. Junior Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the way with first team honors in the all-around, on floor, and on beam along with second team on vault. Classmate Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) collected second team in the all-around alongside first team on vault and floor.

Senior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) earned First Team All-ECAC on bars and second team on vault while classmates Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) and Corey Holman (Westford, Mass.) took first team on bars and vault respectively. Freshman Gabrielle Hechtman (Bellmore, N.Y.) added second team plaudits on vault.

Honoring academic success, senior Stephanie Choo (Centerville, Ohio) earned an ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for her work in the classroom.

Brown scored a season-high 48.700 on vault, a 48.525 on bars, a 47.900 on beam, and a 48.425 on floor.

In the all-around, Mitchell tallied a 38.975 to finish in fourth place while Morant registered a 38.325 for sixth.

Holman and Morant paced the Bears on vault with each tying a personal-best 9.800 to tie for second in the event. Mitchell supported the duo with a 9.725, Walters scored a 9.700, and Hechtman posted a 9.675.

On bars, Chretien and Walters led Brown with a 9.775 apiece. Mitchell and sophomore Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) each notched a 9.675, matching a season high for Ryan. Sophomore Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) followed with a 9.625.

Mitchell scored the team's top score on beam with a 9.775 while Holman recorded a 9.700, and Morant and Ryan each checked in with a 9.600.

On floor, Mitchell placed third in the event with a 9.800 while Morant supported her with a 9.775. Chretien posted a 9.650, Hechtman tallied a 9.625, and junior Brooke Williams (Clyde Hill, Wash.) scored a 9.575.

Next, Brown will look to send representatives to the NCAA Regional Championships on Apr. 2 before aiming to qualify as a team to the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships from Apr. 8-10.
