SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Caroline Morant finished second in the all-around, and senior Corey Holman set a personal best on vault, but Brown University gymnastics fell at Sacramento State, 194.000-192.500, at The Nest on Friday night.
In the first leg of their West Coast trip, the Bears scored a season-high 48.700 as a team on floor and led the host Hornets through three rotations. Brown also posted a 48.350 on vault, a 48.625 on bars, and a 46.825 on beam.
Morant (Chicago, Ill.) placed second in the all-around behind a score of 38.775. Junior Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) supported her with a 37.925 all-around score.
On vault, Holman (Westford, Mass.) registered a career-high 9.800 to tie for second in the event. Morant and Mitchell each posted a 9.700 while freshman Gabrielle Hechtman (Bellmore, N.Y.) and senior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) tallied a 9.600 and 9.550 respectively.
Walters paced the team on bars, tying for second with a 9.800 while senior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) logged a 9.775 for fourth place. Morant and sophomore Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) notched a 9.725 apiece, matching a season high for McAvoy. Sophomore Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) checked in with a 9.600.
Morant paced the Bears on floor with a season-high 9.825, placing second on the event. Walters recorded a season-best 9.775 to tie for third while junior Brooke Williams (Clyde Hill, Wash.) came in with a 9.725. Mitchell and Hechtman charted a 9.700 and 9.675 respectively.
On the team's final rotation on beam, sophomore Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) scored a 9.575 for fifth. Holman and Morant each compiled a 9.525.
Next, Brown concludes its West Coast trip at San Jose State with UC Davis on Sunday, March 6 at 5 p.m. ET.
