PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics scored a season-high 194.000, and juniors Caroline Morant and Jorden Mitchell each set a personal best in the all around as the Bears competed in their second Beauty and the Beast meet alongside Brown wrestling at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday afternoon.
In the dual meet's team standings, the Bears fell to six-time USAG Collegiate Nationals champions Bridgeport, 194.825-194.000, before a standing-room-only crowd at the Pizzitola.
In the all-around, Morant (Chicago, Ill.) established a new career high and came in first with a 39.100 while Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) followed her closely with a 38.850 for a career high of her own. Each gymnast notched three season highs in the meet.
Senior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) won the bars title with a season-high 9.800 while Mitchell and junior Brooke Williams (Clyde Hill, Wash.) tied for the floor crown with each posting a season-high 9.825. Chretien took her second bars title of the year, and Mitchell won her second floor title.
In the team event scores, Brown recorded season highs on vault (48.500), beam (48.550), and floor (48.525) to go with a 48.425 on bars.
On the other side of the gym, Brown wrestling gained a 24-17 win over Roger Williams after dropping a 25-10 decision to Harvard.
On vault, Morant and Mitchell led the way with a season-high 9.750 apiece, tying for second in the event. Senior Corey Holman (Westford, Mass.) supported them with a 9.725 for fifth. Freshman Gabrielle Hechtman (Bellmore, N.Y.) tallied a season-best 9.675, and senior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) logged a season-best 9.600.
Chretien captured the bars title with her season-best 9.800, and Morant came in third with a 9.750. Mitchell scored a season-high 9.675 while Walters and sophomores Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) and Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) scored a 9.625, 9.575, and 9.550 respectively.
On beam, sophomore Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) tied a personal best with a 9.800 to draw in a tie for third in the event with Morant who set a season high. Walters posted a season-best 9.700, Holman scored a 9.650, and Mitchell charted a 9.600.
Finishing on floor, Williams and Mitchell tied for the event crown with a 9.825 each. Morant placed third with a season-high 9.800. Chretien and freshman Morgan Hagenbuch (Norwich, N.Y.) notched a 9.650 and 9.425 respectively with Hagenbuch recording a season best.
Next, Brown competes in a tri-meet at Southern Connecticut State University with Yale University on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
