DURHAM, N.H. – Brown University gymnastics set season high team scores on bars and floor as Brown came in fourth place in a quad meet at the University of New Hampshire with Bridgeport and Towson on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Bears scored a 192.150 as a team, just off their season high score of 192.575. The host Wildcats won the meet with a 195.550, the Towson Tigers came in second with a 194.575, and the Bridgeport Purple Knights finished third with a 194.525. Brown had won its first three quad meets of the year, including a win over Bridgeport on Jan. 24.
As a team, Brown notched a season-high 48.775 on bars and a season-best 48.325 on floor. The Bears tallied a 47.450 on vault and a 47.600 on beam.
In the all-around, junior Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) came in fourth with a score of 38.425 while classmate Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) finished in fifth with a 38.300, tying a season high.
On vault, seniors Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) and Corey Holman (Westford, Mass.) each posted a 9.550, a season high for Walters. Mitchell followed with a 9.525, junior Brooke Williams (Clyde Hill, Wash.) registered a 9.450, and Morant and freshman Gabrielle Hechtman (Bellmore, N.Y.) each charted a 9.375.
Walters tied a career high on bars, pacing the Bears with a 9.850 and tying for third in the event standings. Morant supported her with a season-best 9.825, and senior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) tied a season high with a 9.750. Sophomore Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) posted a 9.700, tying a season high, Mitchell established a new season best with a 9.650, and junior Tori Kinamon (Peachtree City, Ga.) logged a 9.650.
Holman and sophomore Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) led Brown on beam, recording a 9.725 apiece. Morant finished with a 9.575 on the event, and Mitchell scored a 9.450.
On floor, Mitchell set a season high and tied for fifth place in the event with a 9.800. Williams posted a season-best mark of 9.725, and Chretien compiled a personal-best 9.650. Hechtman, Morant, and sophomore Anya Barca-Hall (Santa Cruz, Calif.) recorded a 9.625, 9.525, and 9.500 respectively.
Next, Brown hosts Bridgeport on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. in the team's Beauty and the Beast meet with Brown wrestling at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
