MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Brown University gymnastics junior Diana Walters came in 13th and sophomore Jorden Mitchell came in 15th at the 2015 NCAA Regional Championships at West Virginia University's WVU Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
Competing as individual all-around performers, Walters (Austin, Texas) scored a 38.375, eclipsing her score of 37.725 at last year's regionals, while Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) posted a 37.950 in her first appearance at the NCAAs.
Rotating with Stanford, Walters began on bars where she notched a 9.100. Moving to beam, the Anderson High School product tallied a 9.825, her highest score of the day, prior to posting a 9.725 on both floor and vault in order.
Mitchell, who rotated with Arkansas, started on floor where she posted a 9.350. She continued to vault where she landed a 9.675. The Cathedral High School product concluded competition with a 9.625 on bars and a 9.300 on beam.
Coming into the meet, Walters ranked as the ninth-best all-around gymnast in the North East with a regional qualifying score of 38.765 while Mitchell ranked 11th in the North East with an RQS of 38.605.
In the team standings, Florida won the regional with a 197.475, ahead of Stanford (197.000), Illinois (196.675), Arkansas (196.500), West Virginia (195.650), and New Hampshire (194.825).
Walters, Mitchell, and the Bears will next compete at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships at the University of Pennsylvania's Palestra from April 10-12.
