Gymnastics Hosts Yale for Senior Day in Home Finale on Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics hosts Yale University at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday at 1 p.m. for a dual meet on Senior Day, as the Bears compete in their final home meet of the 2015 season.

Brown set or tied nine personal-best scores as the Bears fell to the University of Bridgeport, 195.475-192.925, in a dual meet on Wednesday night at the Wheeler Recreation Center in Bridgeport, Conn.

The Bears notched a 48.450 on bars in their first rotation, a 47.925 on vault, a 48.725 on floor, and a 47.825 on beam while the host Purple Knights established a new season-high score.

In the all-around, sophomore Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) posted a career-high 38.725 while junior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) registered a 38.225, and freshman Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) tallied a personal-best 37.650. 

Yale University enters the weekend with a 191.275 regional qualifying score as a team, ranking 62nd in the nation, ninth in the North East Region, and fourth in the ECAC. The Bulldogs posted a season-high score of 192.225 on Feb. 22 at the Ivy Classic. Senior Joyce Li stands as the team's top all-around performer with a regional qualifying score of 38.235, sitting fifth in the ECAC. 

Over eight weeks this season, Brown gymnasts have earned 13 weekly honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference:

As of's March 9 rankings, Brown ranks first in the ECAC, seventh in the North East Region, and 54th in the nation with a regional qualifying score of 193.425.

As a team in the ECAC rankings, the Bears stand first on bars (48.545 RQS), first on floor (48.615 RQS), second on vault (48.220 RQS), and third on beam (48.020 RQS).

In the all-around, junior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) ranks third in the ECAC with a 38.550 RQS while sophomore Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) stands fourth with a 38.235.

On vault, Morant ranks second with a 9.735 while the Bears hold three gymnasts in the top 10 on bars – junior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) ranks first (9.790), Walters stands second (9.785), and Morant sits in eighth (9.720).

On beam, freshman Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) ranks eighth with an RQS of 9.675 while on floor, Morant stands third (9.770), senior Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, N.Y.) ranks eighth (9.720), and Walters sits ninth (9.705). 

After Sunday's competition, Brown will compete at the ECAC Championship at Yale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
