Gymnastics Tallies Nine Personal-Best Scores at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Brown University gymnastics set or tied nine personal-best scores as the Bears fell to the University of Bridgeport, 195.475-192.925, in a dual meet on Wednesday night at the Wheeler Recreation Center.

The Bears notched a 48.450 on bars in their first rotation, a 47.925 on vault, a 48.725 on floor, and a 47.825 on beam while the host Purple Knights established a new season-high score.

In the all-around, sophomore Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) posted a career-high 38.725 while junior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) registered a 38.225, and freshman Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) tallied a personal-best 37.650.

Starting on bars, junior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) paced the Bears with a 9.775, finishing in fifth place on the event. Walters followed with a 9.750, and Mitchell tied a career high with a 9.700. Freshman Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) also earned a 9.700, and classmate Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) posted a 9.525.

Moving to vault, Mitchell came in third with a 9.725, and Walters finished in fourth with a 9.700. Junior Corey Holman (Westford, Mass.) and Olson each registered a 9.550, and sophomore Brooke Williams (Clyde Hill, Wash.) posted a 9.400.

On floor, Walters recorded a career-high 9.875 to place third while Williams also set a personal best with a 9.825. Senior Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, N.Y.) notched a 9.750, Olson scored a 9.675, and freshman Anya Barca-Hall (Santa Cruz, Calif.) tallied a season-high 9.600.

Finishing on beam, freshman Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) earned a personal-best score of 9.800 to come in second in the event. Mitchell set a personal best of her own, tying for third with a 9.775. Olson tied her career high with a 9.725, and Holman scored a 9.625.

The meet was originally scheduled for March 5, but officials postponed the competition due to weather conditions.

Next, Brown hosts Yale for Senior Day in its final home meet of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m.
