DURHAM, N.H. – Brown University gymnastics scored a season-high 193.475 placing fourth in a quad meet at the University of New Hampshire along with Towson University and West Virginia University on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gym.
The Bears posted a season-high 48.650 on bars while tallying a 48.450 on floor, a 48.350 on vault, and a 48.025 on beam as a team. UNH won the meet with a score of 196.525 ahead of West Virginia (195.300) and Towson (194.475).
In the all-around, junior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) led the Bears with a season-high 38.850, finishing fourth. In her first career all-around performance, sophomore Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied a 38.425 for fifth.
On the Bears' first rotation on floor, senior Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, N.Y.) recorded a season-high 9.825 to come in 12th in the event. Walters and freshman Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) each notched a 9.700, tying or setting a season best for each. Sophomore Brooke Williams (Clyde Hill, Wash.) registered a 9.625.
Walters paced Brown on the team's second rotation on vault behind a season-high score of 9.775 to tie for eighth. Sophomore Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) tied for 10th with a 9.750. In support, junior Corey Holman (Westford, Mass.), Hoffman, and Williams recorded a 9.675, 9.600, and 9.550 respectively.
On bars, junior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) placed third with a season-best 9.800 with Morant following closely with a 9.750 to tie for fifth. A trio of Bears posted a 9.700 in Mitchell, Ryan, and freshman Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.). On the rotation, McAvoy made her collegiate debut, and Ryan posted a season high with her score.
In the team's final rotation on beam, Walters again recorded the team's top score with a career-best 9.850, tying for third. Morant tallied a season high with a 9.825, good for a tie for fifth, while Mitchell and freshman Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) posted a 9.650 (a career-high for Mitchell) and a 9.575 respectively.
Next, Brown hosts New Hampshire, the University of Bridgeport, and Southern Connecticut State University on Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. in the Pizzitola Sports Center.
