GYMNASTS TO WATCH

The Bears are led by their three all-around NCAA University Park Regional Championships qualifiers: senior Michelle Shnayder (Lincolnshire, Ill.), sophomore Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) and freshman Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.). Morant finished 10th (38.975), Shnayder placed 12th (38.675) and Walters took 13th (37.725) at last Saturday's regional competition hosted by Penn State, narrowly missing the cut for the NCAA Championships. The trio marked the most regional qualifiers for Brown in a single season.

Shnayder, a three-time USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals participant and First Team All-Ivy selection, was named the ECAC Gymnast of the Week after earning Brown's top score on floor in the Bears' season-opening meet on Jan. 19. Walters, a three-time ECAC Gymnast of the Week selection, won the Ivy Classic All-Around title after setting personal records in all four events and leading the Bears to their second straight Ivy Classic title in February. Morant becomes Brown's first ECAC Rookie of the Year since World Floor Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist Alicia Sacramone took the honor in 2007. A five-time ECAC Rookie of the Week, Morant won the ECAC all-around and beam titles with scores of 38.975 and 9.800, respectively.

Sophomore specialist Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) served as an alternate on bars at regionals. Winner of four ECAC Weekly Awards this season, Chretien turned in a career high and tied the school record on bars with a 9.875 at William & Mary on March 14, leading the Bears to a new school record team total of 194.225. At the previous weekend's home meet, she set a then-career-best 9.850 on bars to earn first place and help Brown set a new school record of 48.800 in the event.

LAST SEASON AT COLLEGIATE NATIONALS

For the first time in program history, Brown qualified as a team for the 2013 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships and finished fourth with a 193.575 in the team finals at Centenary. Bridgeport won its fifth-straight championship and Purple Knights sophomore Sasha Tsikhanovich capture the floor title. For the Bears, Walters finished eighth on vault (9.750), Nicole Abdo placed fifth on bars (9.700), Julia Meyer grabbed fifth on beam (9.825) and Shnayder took third on floor (9.800).
