PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – In the first-ever tie for first place in the ECAC Division I Women's Gymnastics Championships history, the Brown gymnastics team added an ECAC Co-Champions trophy to its long list of 2014 achievements with a 193.600 to tie with William & Mary at McGonigle Hall on Saturday. Brown secured a slew of ECAC awards, with seniors Michelle Shnayder (Lincolnshire, Ill.) and Rebecca Freedman (Plainview, N.Y.) being named Scholar Athletes of the Year, freshman Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) taking Rookie of the Year and Head Coach Sara Carver-Milne securing Coach of the Year.

Morant took the ECAC all-around title with a 38.975 and tied for first on beam with a 9.800 to lead the Bears, who set a season high of 48.625 on vault for the top team score. Brown took second on beam (48.450) and floor (48.275) and third on bars (48.250) to finish ahead of second-place Cornell (192.350), third-place Temple (191.775), fourth-place Penn (191.275) and fifth-place Yale (189.850).

Brown opened on floor, relying on Shnayder for a 9.750 to take second place and Morant's 9.700 for fourth. The duo impressed again on vault when they tied for second place with 9.775 scores, which was a career high for Morant and a season best for Shnayder. Sophomore Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) placed third (9.725) and Freedman finished fourth (9.700) to give the Bears the second-best floor showing of the day.

Sophomore specialist Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) performed reliably well on bars with a 9.775 for third place while Morant turned in a 9.700 to post a 48.250 team score. With only beam remaining, Morant dazzled with a 9.800 to tie for first place and Walters finished third with a 9.750. The 48.450 team score was the second-best on beam and proved enough to match William & Mary for the top team score and a share of the 2014 ECAC Championship.

Brown will now await notice of NCAA Regional qualifiers and team qualification for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals, which the Bears host on Apr. 11-13.
