PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND – The Brown gymnastics team will travel to Shreveport, Louisiana this weekend to compete in the 2013 USAG Collegiate National Championships. This year marks the first time that the Bears have qualified for the competition as a team.
"Brown Gymnastics has had a record-breaking and history-making season," said head coach Sara Carver-Milne. "I am especially proud of the team for qualifying to Nationals as a whole for the first time in the history of the program! Winning Ivies this season was one of the most confidence-building events and it propelled the team toward qualifying for the USAG Collegiate National Championships! We look forward to the exciting opportunity that the team has earned to represent Brown in Louisiana at the Championships."
The three-day event begins on April 12th at the Centenary College of Louisiana's Gold Dome, and Brown is one of eight teams that received a bid to the competition. The Bears will be joined by teams from Air Force, Bridgeport, Centenary, Cornell, Penn, Seattle Pacific and Texas Woman's, as well as individual competitors from Lindenwood, Southern Connecticut, Temple, West Chester and Yale.
Brown will compete at 2:00pm on Friday in the first of two qualifying sessions, with the top two teams from each of the sessions moving on to the Team Finals on Saturday night at 7:00pm. Additionally, the top five finishers on each event in each of the preliminary sessions will qualify for the Event Finals on Sunday at 1:00pm.
