PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND – Senior Julia Meyer (Granite City, IL) and freshman Stephanie Choo (Centerville, OH) were honored with two of the ECAC's weekly gymnastics awards for their performances this past weekend.
Meyer was named co-Specialist of the Week after turning in two brilliant routines in Brown's meet against Southern Connecticut, Cornell and West Chester. The senior competed on both bars and beam for the Bears, leading the squad to its second victory of the season. On the bars, Meyer earned a score of 9.75, just a fraction of a point away from her season-high. Her performance on the beam earned her a 9.825, a career-high. She was poised as always, earning the Bears' top score on both events.
"Julia has been very consistent all season on both her events," said head coach Sara Carver-Milne, "often earning the top score for the Bears on both. Her poise in each performance has led Brown to great successes this season."
Choo earned the Coaches Choice honor after turning in a personal best score of 9.600 on the bars to contribute to the Bears' 192.000 total. The freshman has battled a heart condition all year, limiting her practices and cutting her training back to one event. She hit her very first routine in competition this past weekend in a tightly-scored meet, and the entire team shared the excitement over her success.
"Stephanie has worked extremely hard on uneven bars all season to perfect her routine and break into our competitive line-up," said Carver-Milne. "The entire team was so proud to see her perform so well and earn a personal-best score."
Brown will head to George Washington on Sunday for its third meet in seven days, taking on the Colonials in addition to the Towson Tigers and the Maryland Terps at 1:00pm.
