Lutfey and Rubenstein Earn ECAC Gymnastics' Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND – Senior Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA) and sophomore Allison Rubenstein (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) were honored with two of the ECAC's weekly gymnastics awards for their performances this past weekend.

Lutfey was named Gymnast of the Week after turning in a momentous performance in Brown's meet against Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Southern Connecticut. The senior produced the top score on the beam for the Bears', earning a career-high of 9.775. She also contributed season-best scores of 9.675 on the floor exercise and 9.700 on the vault. Her vault score helped Brown to a combined total of 48.625, a score that broke the school's vault record for a second consecutive weekend.

"Emily has been a rock for the team," said head coach Sara Carver-Milne. "Her experience at NCAA Regionals and USAG Nationals has helped her become one of our toughest competitors. Earning a career-high as a senior speaks volumes about Emily's continued determination."

Rubenstein earned the Coaches Choice honor after turning in a gutsy performance on the beam to contribute to the Bears' 191.850 total. After badly injuring her ankle while warming up for Brown's first meet of the season, Rubenstein resumed training on the beam just two days before this past weekend's competition. Scheduled to perform a watered-down version of her routine while working her way back to full strength, her plans were changed when Brown's top beam performer was hurt during warm-ups. Rubenstein stepped up to fill her spot, earning a score of 9.675, the second-highest mark for the Bears.

"As a freshman, Allison earned first team All-Ivy and second team All-ECAC honors for her performance on the beam," said Carver-Milne. "She is crucial to the success of our beam line-up. She stepped up in a big way at Rutgers and her leadership shined through."

Brown will welcome the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen, the Bridgeport Purple Knights, the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland and the Springfield College Pride to the Pizzitola Sports Center this weekend, as the team hosts their final home meet of the 2013 season on Sunday, February 10. Competition is set to begin at 1:00pm.
