Ten Bears Qualify for USAG Collegiate Nationals

Providence, RI- The Brown University gymnastics team qualified 10 individuals to compete in the USAG Collegiate Nationals held April 12-14 at the University of Bridgeport.

Sophomore Michelle Shnayder (Lincolnshire, IL), a First Team USAG All-American on the floor exercise in 2011, will be competing all-around for the Bears at Nationals.  Brown's competitors on vault will be sophomore Rebecca Freedman (Plainview, NY), junior Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA), senior Katie Goddard (Kings Park, NY) and freshman Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, NY).

Junior Julia Meyer (Granite City, IL), junior Nicole Abdo (Largo, FL), and junior Kasey Haas (Charlotte, NC), and Lilly Siems (alternate) will compete on bars, while Abdo, freshman Allison Rubenstein (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ), Lutfey and Meyer have qualified for the balance beam.  Qualifying for the floor exercise is Goddard, Lutfey, Abdo, Rubenstein and Hoffman.  Lutfey earned First Team USAG All-American honors last season after finishing second in event finals on the floor exercise, and also earned All-American status on vault and in the all-around. 

The Bears will have a practice session and banquet on Wednesday, April 11, and preliminaries will be held at 1 & 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 12. Event finals are on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
