Philadelphia, PA- The Brown University gymnastics team earned a season-high score of 192.250 to finish in fifth place overall at the ECAC Championships hosted at The Palestra at the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon. The host Quakers earned the team title with a 194.400, followed by Towson (194.375) in second, Temple (192.450) in third and Cornell (192.350) in fourth. The Bears defeated sixth place William & Mary (191.925) and Yale (191.450).
The Bears earned a season high score on the vault as they combined for a 48.300. Brown's top finisher was sophomore Michelle Shnayder, who posted a 9.775 to place eighth overall. Senior Carli Wiesenfeld (9.750) followed in 10th place, as senior Katie Goddard (9.650) earned 20th and freshman Rebecca Freedman (9.600) earned 26th. Rounding out Brown's competitors was freshman Danielle Hoffman (9.525) and sophomore Katie Rogers (9.450).
Junior Kasey Haas was Brown's top finisher on the bars with a 9.625 (26th), followed by both Shnayder and Wiesenfeld in 30th with a 9.575. Junior Nicole Abdo posted a 9.400, junior Julia Meyer earned a 9.250 and senior Lilly Siems rounded out the scoring with a 9.150. The Bears tallied a team score of 47.425.
The Bears turned in a season-high beam score of 48.075 and was led by Rubenstein's fifth-best score of 9.725. Placing right behind was Abdo (10th) with a 9.675, and a 13th place score by Meyer (9.625). Shnayder recorded a 9.550, and Danielle Hoffman (9.500) and junior Emily Lutfey (9.450) were the last two scorers for the Bears.
Shnayder led Bruno on the floor exercise with a 9.800 for fifth place honors, and Abdo and Goddard tied for 9th with a 9.750. Hoffman followed in 19th with a 9.625, as Rubenstein (9.525) and Lutfey (9.200) also turned in solid marks to give the Bears a total score of 48.450.
Shnayder, Brown's only all-around competitor, combined for a score of 38.700 to finish in sixth place.
