Bears Finish Third at Metroplex Challenge

Ft. Worth, Texas – The Brown University gymnastics team finished in third behind Stanford and Bridgeport with a season-high 191.725 at the Metroplex Challenge on Saturday evening. Stanford's first place total was 196.375, followed by Bridgeport's 191.725.

On the vault, Rebecca Freedman (Plainview, NY) was Brown's top scorer with a personal record of a 9.750 to earn fourth place, and Katie Goddard (Kings Park, NY) recorded a 9.625 for earn ninth. Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, NY) posted a personal record of a 9.6 to tie with Michelle Shnayder (Lincolnshire, IL) for 10th place, while Emily Lutfey (9.575) and Carli Wiesenfeld (8.975) rounded out the Bears' competitors as the team tallied a 48.150 on the event.

Julia Meyer (Granite City, IL), this week's ECAC Specialist of the Week, led Brown on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.700 for seventh place, and earning 10th place was Nicole Abdo with a 9.650. Shnayder posted a 9.575 to tie her personal record and place 11th, and Kasey Haas (9.450), Lilly Siems (9.250) and Lauren Hall (9.075) earned 14th through 16th place finishes, respectively. The Bears combined for a team score of 47.625.

Meyer led the Bears on the balance beam with a 9.775 tying her personal record for ninth place, and finishing right behind was both Abdo, who earned a personal record of 9.725, and Lutfey in 10th place. Then the Bears earned 14th through 16th place, with Shnayder earning 14th with a 9.425, followed by Danielle Hoffman's personal record of 9.375 for 15th and Allison Rubenstein's (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) 9.050 for 16th. Brown totaled a 48.025 on the beam.

Rubenstein and Shnayder were Brown's top scorers on the floor exercise earning a 9.650 for 11th place. The score was a personal record for Rubenstein. Hoffman earned 14th with a 9.575, Lutfey and Goddard tied for 15th with a 9.525 and Abdo rounded out the scoring with a 9.125 for 18th.

Shnayder competed all-around for the Bears and earned second place with a total score of 38.250.

The Bears will be back in action at the Ivy Classic hosted at Cornell on Sunday, Feb. 26.
