Bears to "Pink out the Pitz" in Season Opening Meet Today

Provivdence, RI- The Brown University gymnastics team will open its 2012 seaon with its "Pink out the Pitz" meet in support of Breast Cancer Awareness when it takes on Bridgeport and Rhode Island College at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

The Bears will be sporting special Breast Cancer Awareness leotards and ask that all fans wear pink to show their support. Also, a portion of the cost of the Bears' leotards went toward breast cancer research.

The Bears will be led by team captains Katie Goddars and Lilly Siems this season, as well as USAG All-Americans Emily Lutfey and Michelle Shnayder.

Three-time defending USA Gymnastics Collegiate team champions Bridgeport heads into the meet coming off a win over Rhode Island College on Jan. 14 and a second place finish in a meet with Maryland and Alaska on Jan. 20. After just one week of competition Lissette La Fex received ECAC Division II Gymnast of the Week honors for leading the team to its season opening week. She finished in the top two on all three events.

Rhode Island College's Sara Chrane received the ECAC Division III Coaches Award after per performances vs. Bridgeport on Jan. 14. She helped the team record a team total of 172.150 as her 9.5 on the floor was the highest individual mark on any event by a RIC gymnast since the 2008-09 season. RIC is 0-2 this season and 0-1 in the ECAC.
