Ithaca, NY- The Brown University gymnastics team combined for a 190.925 and scored a record-breaking 48.650 on the bars, but it wasn't enough to get by Cornell who tallied a team score of 193.100. Junior Emily Lutfey brought home titles in both the floor exercise and in the all-around competition to lead the Bears this afternoon.
Lutfey led the Bears on the vault with a 9.475 to earn fifth place. Sophomore Katie Goddard followed just behind with a 9.450 for sixth, and freshman Rebecca Freedman posted a 9.425 for seventh. Then, Carli Wiesenfeld finished in eighth with a 9.325 and Michelle Shnayder rounded out the scoring with an 8.950. The Bears scored a 46.625 on the event, as Cornell combined for a 47.875.
Senior Chelsey Binkley led Bruno on the bars with a 9.800 en route to Brown's record-breaking 48.650. Lutfey and Julia Meyer tied for fourth place with scores of 9.725, while Kasey Haas, Lilly Siems and Nicole Abdo all scored a 9.700 for fifth place. Lauren Hall posted a 9.650 to place seventh overall.
On the beam, Lutfey finished in third with a 9.700 and senior Vicki Zanelli placed fifth with a 9.575 as Bruno earned a 47.325. Shnayder's 9.450 was good for seventh place, followed by Madeline Benz's 9.375 for eighth and Carli Wiesenfeld's 9.225 for ninth.
Brown totaled a 48.325 on the floor exercise, as Lutfey won the title with a 9.800. Freshman Taline Lachanski earned a 9.700 for second place and Shnayder (9.675) and Haas (9.625) earned third and fourth place honors, respectively. Then, Wiesenfeld came in sixth with a 9.525, while Goddard earned a 9.275.
