Three Brown Gymnasts Qualify for USAG National Championship

Providence, R.I.- Three Brown University gymnasts qualified for the USAG National Championship hosted at Texas Women's University held April 15-17 at Kitty Magee Arena. Freshman Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA) and junior Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) qualified in the all-around, while freshman Julia Meyer (Granite City, IL) qualified on beam and will also serve as a first alternate on bars.

Lutfey has made an immediate impact on the team as a rookie, as she quickly became one of Brown's top scorers this season. She earned a career-high 9.725 during the ECAC Championship meet on the vault, helping Brown to its highest vault score since 2003 with a 48.225. She also earned a career-high 9.550 on the bars and a 9.700 on the beam against Alaska Anchorage and had a high of 9.725 on the floor two times this year. Lutfey's best all-around score of 38.475 came in a meet against Southern Connecticut and Towson on March 20.

Binkley has been a solid force for the Bears all season and has posted some great scores for Bruno. She posted a career-high score of a 9.750 on the vault at the ECAC Championship this past weekend, and also had a career meet against Bridgeport and Rhode Island College when she earned a career-high 9.7 on the beam, a career-high 9.825 on the floor en route to a career-high 37.875 in the all-around.

Meyer is a bars and beam specialist for the Bears and has posted consistent scores throughout the year. In her collegiate debut on Jan. 16, Meyer earned a 9.5 on the bars and a 9.0 on the beam. She had her best meet of the season when the Bears traveled to Alaska to take on Alaska-Anchorage. Meyer lit up for career-highs of 9.8 on the bars and a 9.725 on the beam.

Tickets for the championships are on sale now and can be purchased at A three-day championship pass is $25 for adults, and $13 for students (ages 6-17) and senior citizens (ages 55+). Day pass prices are $10 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens. Children ages five and under will be admitted free for the entire event but do require a ticket which can also be acquired through the online ticket storefront. All seating in Kitty Magee Arena will be general admission only.
