Durham, NH- The Brown University gymnastics team fell
194.975-188.300 to the University of New Hampshire on Friday
evening in Durham. Freshman Emily Lutfey had a solid day for the
Bears, earning second place in the all-around competition.
New Hampshire locked up first through fourth place finishes on the vault as the squad combined for a 48.875. Lutfey earned Brown’s top score with a 9.600 for sixth place, as teammates Katie Goddard followed with a 9.550 for eighth, Chelsey Binkley came in ninth with a 9.325 and Carli Wiesenfeld earned 10th with a 9.300. Overall, the Bears combined for a 46. 750 on the event.
The Wildcats earned first through fifth place finishes on the uneven parallel bars, including Alison Carr’s score of 9.950 to earn the title. Brown’s Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt earned Brown’s highest finish with a 9.450 for sixth, while Binkley, Lauren Hall and Wiesenfeld earned seventh place with their score of 9.375. New Hampshire tallied a 49.300 as a team on the vault, while the Bears combined for 46.425.
On the beam, Meyer led Brown with a 9.700 for fourth place, followed by a 9.675 from Lutfey and a 9.600 for Kirkham-Lewitt. Freshman Nicole Abdo registered a 9.550 for seventh place, and Binkley garnered 11th with a 9.050. Overall, the Bears tallied a 47.550, while the Wildcats posted a combined score of 48.300.
Abdo led the Bears on the floor exercise with a solid 9.675 for fifth place, while both Lutfey and Katie Goddard earned a 9.625 for sixth place. Hall registered a 9.575 for eighth and Binkley posted a 9.050 for 11th. New Hampshire edged the Bears on the floor 48.500-47.550.
New Hampshire’s Chelsea Steinberg earned the all-around title with a 39.350, while Brown’s Lutfey came in second with a 37.750 and Binkley tallied a 36.800 for third.
Brown is back in action this Sunday (Feb. 14) when it hosts Bridgeport and the University of Pennsylvania. The Bears are hosting its Breast Cancer Awareness meet on Sunday, and ask all to show your support by wearing pink!
