Brown Set to Host Second NFC Meet

Brown Set to Host Second NFC Meet

Jan. 26, 2007

When the Brown men's and women's fencing teams host Saturday's Northeast Fencing Conference meet, they will be hosting one of the largest collegiate team fencing meets ever. Eight teams, fielding 210 fencers, will compete at the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center on Saturday, competing in 42 meets.

The Bears will host six other NFC members -- Boston College, Brandeis, Dartmouth, MIT, Sacred Heart, and Smith -- as well as the University of Florida, in the second of the conference's three competitions. Each team in the NFC attends two of the three events, competing once against each of the conference's teams (10 for the men, 12 for the women).

After one meet, both Bears teams sit atop the standings with undefeated records. The women are tied with MIT with a 6-0 record, with Brandeis one match behind at 5-1. The men face a similar situation, tied with those two aforementioned teams at 4-0. Both the men and women will face MIT and Brandeis on Saturday in crucial meets. Complete standings are below.

The competition will begin at 9 a.m., with rotations lasting between an hour to an hour and a half depending on the length of matches. Brown will open against Boston College, followed by meets against Dartmouth, MIT, Florida, and Brandeis, then a bye followed by Sacred Heart in the final rotation.
