Mahoney Finishes NCAAs in 21st Place

Madison, NJ - Senior tri-captain Dan Mahoney (Haydenville, MA) of the Brown fencing team went 2-7 on the second day of the NCAA Championships at Drew University, finishing his final collegiate competition in 21st place in the men's sabre. That brought his record to 4-19 for the two-day round robin competition.

Mahoney was within two touches in four of his seven defeats, and he defeated Harvard's Dan Sachs and ninth-place finisher Ian Farr of Penn State, both by 5-3 counts. He lost his third 5-4 bout of the tournament to Thomas Abend of Princeton, and dropped three 5-3 bouts.

On Saturday, it will be freshman Randy Alevi (Old Westbury, NY) representing the Bears, this time in the women's sabre.
