Madison, NJ - After the first day of the NCAA Championship held at Drew University, Brown senior tri-captain Dan Mahoney (Haydenville, MA) sits in 21st place in the standings for the men's sabre. Mahoney was 2-12 in his 14 bouts on the day, also scoring four touches in the first-to-five bouts twice and scoring three touches five times.

Mahoney's wins came against former All-American Jaroslaw Jelinek of the University of Detroit Mercy, 5-3, and Robert Ziechmann of the University of North Carolina, 5-4. Mahoney also lost by just one touch to Torian Brown of St. John's and Matt Kolasa of Penn.

On Friday, Mahoney will fence his final nine bouts. The women will begin competition on Saturday, including freshman Randy Alevi (Old Westbury, NY) in the women's sabre.
