NEW HAVEN, CT - The Brown men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Yale Invitational on Saturday, February 9.
The men's team fell to Yale and Columbia by identical 18-9 scores. On the women's side, Brown dropped decisions to Yale, 19-8 and Columbia 16-11.
Senior Sharon Sonenblum (Monroe Township, NJ) led the charge for the women's team by compiling a 5-1 record in women's saber action. Junior Paul Friedman (San Marino, CA) also went 5-1 in men's saber. Senior Jon Feldon (Newton, MA) rounded out the scoring for the Bears by going 4-2 in men's epee.
However, the highlight of the day came against Yale in women's saber when sophomore Cristina Rodriguez-Hart (Los Angeles, CA) defeated NCAA Senior World Team Champion and Junior World Silver medalist Sada Jacobson in what was Jacobson's first collegiate loss.
Both the men's and women's squads will be back in action at the New England Championships on Saturday, February 23 at Tufts University.
