Masood Earns Second Team All-Ivy for Fencing at Ivy Round-Robins

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore men's foilist Umar Masood earned Second Team All-Ivy honors to lead Brown University fencing at the 2017 Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins at Penn's Tse Ping-Cheng Cheung Ling Sports Center on Sunday.

On the second and final day of the Ivy Round-Robins, Masood (Pittsford, N.Y.) finished with a 9-5 overall record, coming in sixth place. The top three fencers in each weapon gain First Team All-Ivy while finishers four through six garner Second Team All-Ivy accolades.

On Sunday, the Brown men fell to No. 8 Harvard, 20-7, while the women's side dropped decisions to Cornell, 18-9, and No. 9 Harvard, 23-4. Women's sabre went 4-5 against the Big Red, and women's epee finished 4-5 against the Crimson.

In the team standings, No. 1 Princeton won the women's championship with a 6-0 record while on the men's side No. 2 Columbia, No. 5 Penn, and No. 6 Princeton all went 4-1 to finish in a three-way tie for the men's championship.

Junior Samuel Koch (San Francisco, Calif.) tallied a 7-8 record for 10th place in men's epee while in men's sabre senior Alex Palabrica (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Alexander Catoya (Rutherford, N.J.) each won four bouts in men's sabre.

Senior Clara Tondato Da Ruos (Milan Italy) and junior Signe Ferguson (Wilmington, Del.) captured six wins apiece in women's sabre and women's epee respectively. In women's foil, sophomore Ebba Brunnstrom (London, England) picked up four wins.

Next, Brown competes at the Temple Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 26 in its regular season finale.
