Fencing’s Jones Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brown University fencing senior Simon Jones has earned Honorable Mention All-America honors through his 12th place finish in men's epee on the second and final day of men's competition at the NCAA Championships on Sunday at Brandeis' Gosman Sports and Convocation Center.

A three-time NCAA qualifier and now a two-time All-American, Jones finished the championship with a 12-11 overall record over five rounds. He placed 12th in men's epee for the second straight year in a field of 24 fencers.

On Saturday, Jones opened with a 6-1 record in round one, standing in second place through the first round. In the round, he scored 33 touches with 20 touches received for a +13 indicator.

He went 2-2 in round two, notching 17 touches scored to 16 touches received for a +1 indicator. He remained in fifth place through two rounds with an overall record of 8-3 and an indicator of +14 (50 TS to 36 TR). Jones finished 1-3 in round three with 12 touches scored and 19 touches received (-7 indicator).

In rounds four and five on Sunday, Jones posted a 3-5 mark with 30 touches scored to 37 touches received for a -7 indicator.

In the team standings, Brown finished in 23rd out of 25 schools.
