WALTHAM, Mass. – Brown University fencing senior Simon Jones stands in seventh place in men's epee after day one of men's competition at the NCAA Championships at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center on the campus of Brandeis University on Saturday.
In a field of 24 competitors, Jones (Louisville, Colo.) stands in the top 10 behind a 9-6 record through three rounds.
A three-time NCAA qualifier and Honorable Mention All-American in 2015, Jones opened with a 6-1 record in round one, standing in second place through the first round. In the round, he scored 33 touches with 20 touches received for a +13 indicator.
He went 2-2 in round two, notching 17 touches scored to 16 touches received for a +1 indicator. He remained in fifth place through two rounds with an overall record of 8-3 and an indicator of +14 (50 TS to 36 TR). Jones finished 1-3 in round three with 12 touches scored and 19 touches received (-7 indicator).
Jones will conclude competition at the championship tomorrow with rounds four and five beginning at 9 a.m. Semifinal and final bouts are set for 1:30 p.m.
In the team standings, Brown ranks 23rd out of 25 schools.
