Brown Places 13th at NCAA Fencing Championships
Columbus, Ohio. – For the second-straight season the Brown fencing team finished 13th overall at the NCAA Division I Championship. The Bears were represented in every weapon at the 2012 tournament and sent a program-high six fencers to Ohio State. Brown was one of only nine schools in the country to have a fencer in all events.
Brown boasted two fencers who each earned the team nine points as juniors Teddy Weller (Barrington, R.I.) and Kelly McGuire (Park City, Utah) led the way for the Bears. Weller finished 20th overall in the men's saber while McGuire placed 18th in the men's epee.
Freshman Barrett Weiss (Barrington, R.I.) made the NCAA's in his rookie campaign for the Bears, finishing 24th in the country in the men's foil to earn Brown five team points.
All three women fencers tallied seven points towards the squad standings. Freshman Christine Whalen (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) placed 19th in the women's saber, sophomore Kathryn Hawrot (Barrington, R.I.) finished 19th in the women's foil and junior Cory Abbe (Scappoose, Ore.) earned 21st overall in the women's foil.
