Friedman and Schneider Qualify For NCAA Fencing Championships
Senior All-American Paul Friedman placed second out of 27 in men's sabre, earning himself a place at nationals for the fourth year in a row. Teammate sophomore Dan Dorsky finished eighth -- he is first alternate and will compete if any of the fencers placed above him is unable to fence at the championships. Freshman jeremy Adler placed 21st in the same event.
Men's epee fared well, with senior Matthew Ivester placing eighth out of 32, highlighting the day with a beautiful 5-0 victory against Columbia. Freshman Adrian Martin was promoted to the second round of pools, finishing 16th. Tri-captain junior Brian Williams placed 25th in the same event.
In women's epee, Junior Olympic bronze medalist freshman Ruth Schneider soared to fourth place out of 36 competitors to qualify for the championships, rounding out a dazzling season. Junior Alessandra Assante finished 25th in the same event. Tri-captain senior Sophie Klein finished 27th after starting the day in a very difficult pool but rising to the occasion.
Schneider and Friedman will represent Bruno at the NCAA Championships March 20-23 at Air Force Academy in Colorado.
