CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS—Brown Fencing put up a stellar performance at the first Northeast Fencing Conference competition of the 2012-2013 season, with the women going undefeated on the day, and the men dropping only one close match-up, 14-13, against Sacred Heart.

The men similarly overwhelmed three of their opponents, triumphing over BU (24-3), UNH (26-1), and UMass (20-7). In their face-off with Sacred Heart, after strong fencing and vocal cheering from both sides the decision came down to the final touch of the final bout, which Brown lost 5-4.
A number of Bears had a successful day, including women's foil rookie Audrey Lee (Upper Saddle River, NJ) who went 12-2, and senior Avery Nackman (Katonah, NY) who went 10-2. They led the women's foil to two perfect scores of 9-0 against UNH and Wellesley. For the men's foil it was the rookies again, with Robert Iverson (Basking Ridge, NJ) putting up a 7-1 record and his teammate, Kyle Kennedy (Wall, NJ), going 7-2. The men also had two undefeated matches, going 9-0 against UNH and UMass.

With help from their teammates, they led the squad to a flawless 9-0 finish against UNH. The men's saber team boasted a 9-1 record by junior Nick Deak (San Diego, CA), a 10-1 finish from senior Teddy Weller (Barrington, RI), and an undefeated 9-0 spot from rookie Denis Dukhvalov (Salisbury Mills, NY).
