Equestrian Ties for Third; Increases Lead in Region I

MIDDLETOWN, CT -- The Brown Equestrian Team traveled to Wesleyan on Saturday for the fourth show of the fall semester. Brown tied Johnson & Wales University for third place with 35 points, four behind High Point College UConn and three behind second place Connecticut College.

Brown's closest rival in Region I, Zone I, Salve Regina College, earned 31 points, allowing the Bears to extend their lead in Region I to ten points. Currently, Brown has 151 points, followed by Salve Regina with 141 and UConn with 140.

The individual High Point Rider Award for the show went to Amanda Forte '02 (Glenmoore, PA). After winning blue in both open fences and open flat, Forte beat out two other double winners for the award. Also placing well in the open division were co-captain Elizabeth Quadros '02 (San Mateo, CA) with a win over fences and fourth on the flat and Sarah Markowitz '02 (Ithaca, NY) with second place finishes in both flat and jumping.

In the intermediate division, Sarah Staveley-O'Carroll '03 (North Dartmouth, MA) took first on the flat, qualifying her for the Regional competition in April and moving her into the open flat division. Staveley-O'Carroll also took third in open fences. Cindy Willner '04 (Danbury, CT) placed second in intermediate fences and third in intermediate flat. Severine Brustlein '05 was second on the flat and sixth in the jumping.

In the novice division, Debbie Yoon '02 (North Easton, MA) and Jennifer Kim '04 each won blue on the flat and fourth over fences. Ann Rundquist '02 (Northampton, MA) took second on the flat and fifth over fences in her intercollegiate jumping debut. Leah Neuhauser '03 (Louisville, KY) placed second in advanced walk-trot-canter, which qualified her for Regionals and moved her into the novice division.

Next weekend, Brown travels to Connecticut College for the final show of the fall season.
