Westford, MA - Brown rode to a third-place finish at the Ivy League Championships on Saturday, finishing just 14 points behind champion Cornell. Several riders turned in solid performances for the Bears, who racked up a total of 27 points.
In the first event of the day, sophomore Allegra Aron (Burlingame, CA) pinned second in her class, getting the Bears off to a solid start. Junior point rider Liz Giliberti (Washington, D.C.) then followed with a great ride for a blue ribbon, leaving Brown tied for first after the initial event. The duo went on to finish second and fourth in the Open Flat Championship. Aron then followed with another second in the Open Fences.
The show then continued with Intermediate Fences, where the Bears were led by junior Rachel Griffith (Merrimack, N.H.), who took second in her class. Sophomore Dakota Gruener (Berkeley, CA) led three Brown riders who were called back in the Intermediate Flat Championship, taking third place overall, giving Brown four more points. Junior Kona Shen (Seattle, WA), who will be representing the Bears at the IHSA National Championship, won her class in the Walk Trot Canter, and went on to finish third overall in the event.
The Bears will be back in action on April 23, when Giliberti and Shen will travel to compete in the IHSA National Championships in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
