Equestrian Places First At Teikyo Post; Leads Region by 12

HEBRON, CT -- The Brown Equestrian team scored a season-high 44 out of a possible 49 points to win the High Point College Award on Saturday, March 16, at the Teikyo Post University show.
The Reserve High Point Award went to Roger Williams University with 32 points. UConn, the former region-leader, scored 26 points, allowing the Bears to move into first place in the region. Brown now leads Region I, Zone 1 by 12 points, with 299, while the Huskies stand second at 287 with two shows left to go in the regular season.
Leading the team was High Point Rider senior Amanda Forte (Glenmoore, PA), with two blue ribbons in the open division, and a win in the ride-off to secure High Point honors. Senior Sarah Markowitz (Ithaca, NY) took second in open fences, which qualified her for the regional competition in April. Also placing in the open division were junior Sarah Staveley-O'Carroll (North Dartmouth, MA), who placed second over fences and sixth on the flat, and sophomore Jackie Bialo, with a second in the flat division.
In the intermediate division, co-captain, junior Chelsea Hamilton (Skillman, NJ) placed first in the flat and sixth over fences, while senior Megan Burke (Corte Madera, CA) took second in flat and third over fences. Also earning high marks in intermediate were senior Heather McCrea (Wilton, CT), with a fourth in fences and second on the flat, and sophomore Severine Brustlein (Epalinges, Switzerland) with a second in her flat class. Senior Debbie Yoon (North Easton, MA) placed first in intermediate flat and fourth in novice fences, thereby qualifying her for regionals.
In novice, senior Caroline Preston (Washington, D.C.) took second over fences and first on the flat. Senior Ann Rundquist (Northmapton, MA) also placed first on the flat and sixth in the jumping. Freshman Rebecca Barker (Belvedere, CA) also placed first in the advanced walk-trot-canter division.
Brown kept the winning streak going at the end of the day by sweeping the walk-trot division, with wins from senior Akanksha Mehta (Scarsdale, NY) and freshman Jenny Fauth (Belmont, MA).
The Bears return to action on March 23 at Johnson & Wales for the second to last show of the regular season.
