Rehoboth, MA - The equestrian team wrapped up an outstanding regular season over the weekend, winning their region by an impressive 36 points to clinch a trip to the Zone 1 Championship. Junior Liz Giliberti (Washington, D.C.) also had a strong individual day, taking a first and second to seal the Cacchione Cup, and also won the Reserve High Point Rider.
Giliberti kicked things off with a positive note, taking second in her class of the Open Fences as the point rider, giving Brown an early lead. Sophomore Elise Fishelson (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) also pinned second in her class, pushing the opposing point riders further down in the standings. Fellow sophomore Katy Eng (New York, N.Y.), who was the High Point Rider of the show, followed by winning her class of the Novice Fences to push Brown's point total to 12 after a drop.
Turning to the flat, Giliberti once again set a nice tone for the Bears, pinning first in her class of the Open Flat. Senior Leona Rosenblum (New York, N.Y.) also had a nice ride in the Intermediate Flat, placing second despite a restart in the class. Sophomore point rider Dakota Gruener (Berkeley, CA) pinned first in her class of the Intermediate Flat, giving Bruno 22 points on the day, and sealing the Regional win for Brown. Eng then kept the positive momentum going in the Novice Flat, taking her second blue ribbon of the day.
After a fourth in Walk Trot Canter, the Bears got back on track in the Walk Trot division, as both sophomore Cate Berger (La Grange, IL) and senior Rebecca de Sa (Rye, N.Y.) took first in their class, propelling Brown to a six-point win in the show.
The Bears will be back in action on March 28, when they travel to Connecticut College to participate in the Region 1 Championship.
