GALES FERRY, Conn. – Brown University equestrian tallied three blue ribbons and 10 total top-three performances to finish in second place as a team at the University of Rhode Island IHSA Show on Saturday at Mystic Valley Hunt Club.
Senior captain Sara Nordstrom (Medina, Wash.), sophomore Hannah Guevara (Pasadena, Calif.), and sophomore Renee Seto (Barrington, R.I.) all won blue ribbons to lead the Bears. As a team, Brown has now finished in either first or second place in all five of its shows this fall.
Beginning with open fences, Nordstrom and fellow senior captain Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) placed third and fifth respectively. In intermediate fences, Guevara took first place while senior Sophie de Menil (New York, N.Y.) came in sixth.
Nordstrom earned her blue ribbon in open flat while senior Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) and Flagg followed with second and fifth-place finishes respectively. In intermediate flat, senior Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.) took fourth in her debut in the division, and freshman Hannah Woolley (Medfield, Mass.) came in fifth.
Junior captain Wallace Douglas (Ipswich, Mass.) made her debut in novice fences and placed fifth. Senior Madison Kuhn (Lancaster, Pa.) came in second in the division, and senior Elizabeth Rao (Andover, Mass.) placed fifth.
The Bears fielded six riders in novice flat with the cohort posting a trio of top-three finishes. Renee Seto led the way with a blue ribbon while junior Katrina Heilbroner (New York, N.Y,) and senior Caroline Marks (Seattle, Wash.) both came in third in their respective classes. Douglas, Kuhn, and Rao posted fourth, fourth, and fifth-place showings apiece.
In walk-trot-canter, senior Sara Sellers (Washington, D.C.), senior Rebecca Chernick (Weston, Mass.), and senior Genoveva Eguiguren (Quito, Ecuador) all came in fifth. Closing the day with walk-trot, sophomore Sophie Starck (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Emma Ramsdell (Cambridge, Mass.) each placed third.
Next, Brown concludes its fall season with a pair of shows next weekend – at the Johnson & Wales Show on Nov. 18 and at the Assumption Show on Nov. 19.
