TIVERTON, R.I. – Brown University equestrian totaled 11 top-three finishes, including three blue ribbons, to finish in a tie for second place as a team at the UMass Dartmouth IHSA Show at "New" Claddagh Farm on Saturday in the last show in the month of October.
In the team standings, Brown scored 29 points, drawing even with both UMass Dartmouth and the University of Rhode Island. Roger Williams won the show with 34 points.
Junior captain Sara Nordstrom (Medina, Wash.) paced the team in open fences with a second-place finish while senior captain Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.) tallied a third-place performance. Guevara took second place in her class in intermediate fences.
In open flat, Baughen and senior Samantha Spear (Chester Springs, Pa.) each notched third-place showings with Nordstrom adding a fourth-place finish. In intermediate flat, Guevara won her class while junior captain Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) came in third.
Junior Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.) paced Brown with a second-place finish in novice fences while freshman Jordan Hanson (Berkeley, Calif.) placed fifth. In novice flat, junior Nicole Nowak (East Greenwich, R.I.) came in sixth while junior Madison Kuhn (Lancaster, Pa.) and Hanson both did not pin. In walk-trot-canter, senior Roshan Moazed (Brookline, Mass.), sophomore Wallace Douglas (Ipswich, Mass.), and senior Rebecca Chernick (Weston, Mass.) logged finishes of fifth, sixth, and DNP respectively.
Finishing with walk-trot, Liu and Fisher each won her class while junior Katrina Lee (Manila, Philippines) recorded a second-place performance.
For the year, Brown stands in fourth place in the region as a team with 118 points. URI leads the region with 135 points with UMass Dartmouth (120 points) and Roger Williams (119 points) following.
In the race for the Cacchione Cup, Baughen ranks third with 31 points, and Nordstrom sits in fifth with 21 points. UMass Dartmouth's Olivia van der Meer leads the standings with 46 points with URI's Lauren Henry (38 points) holding second place.
Next, Brown competes at the Roger Williams University IHSA Show on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Nora Harris Equestrian in Tiverton, R.I.
