Equestrian Earns Four Blue Ribbons, Wins Becker Show

PAXTON, Mass. – Brown University equestrian earned four blue ribbons and compiled seven top-three performances en route to a first-place team finish at the Becker IHSA Show on Saturday at the Becker College Equestrian Center.

Senior captain Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.) led the Bears with a first-place finish in open flat and a second-place showing in open fences as Brown captured its first victory of the fall season.

In the team standings, Brown led the way with 42 points ahead of second-place Rhode Island (34), third-place Roger Williams (30), and eight other schools in the 11-team region.

Freshman Jordan Hanson (Berkeley, Calif.), sophomore Wallace Douglas (Ipswich, Mass.), and junior Genoveva Eguiguren (Quito, Ecuador) each won her class in novice flat, walk-trot-canter, and walk-trot respectively with Hanson making her collegiate debut.

Supporting Baughen in open fences, junior captain Sara Nordstrom (Medina, Wash.) came in sixth place while junior Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) placed third in intermediate fences. Along with Baughen in open flat, senior Samantha Spear (Chester Springs, Pa.) came in sixth.

In intermediate flat, junior captain Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) and freshman Hannah Guevara (Pasadena, Calif.) each pinned fifth in her respective class with Guevara competing in her first collegiate show.

Junior Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.) placed second in novice fences while senior Rebecca Chernick (Weston, Mass.) followed Douglas in walk-trot-canter with a fifth-place finish. In walk-trot, junior Natalia Moriel (Ciudad Juarez, Mexico) came in fifth alongside Eguiguren.

Baughen and Nordstrom rank third and sixth respectively in the Cacchione Cup standings.

For the year, Brown ranks third in the region with 89 points, trailing only Rhode Island (106 points) and UMass Dartmouth (91 points).

Next, Brown competes at the UMass Dartmouth IHSA Show on Saturday, Oct. 29 at "New" Claddagh Farm in Tiverton, R.I.
