TIVERTON, R.I. – Senior Casey Fisher and junior Anna Seto each earned first-place finishes to help lead Brown University equestrian to a third-place team finish at the Salve Regina IHSA Show at Claddagh Farm in its fall season opener on Sunday.
Fisher (Oro Valley, Ariz.) took home her first career blue ribbon with a first-place finish in walk-trot while Seto (Barrington, R.I.) captured a blue ribbon in novice fences.
In the first show of the year for the 11-school IHSA Zone 1 Region 1, the Bears placed third as a team with 26 points. The University of Rhode Island won the show with 36 points while UMass Dartmouth came in second with 28 points. Roger Williams placed fourth behind 25 points.
In open fences, senior captain Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.) finished in third in her class while junior captain Sara Nordstrom (Medina, Wash.) claimed a fourth-place finish. In intermediate fences, junior Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) finished sixth.
Moving to open flat, Nordstrom paced the Bears with a second-place showing, Baughen came in fourth, and senior Samantha Spear (Chester Springs, Pa) finished sixth. In intermediate flat, junior captain Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) snagged a third-place finish, and classmate Clara Mae Maynard (Chilmark, Mass.) did not pin.
Seto led Brown with her blue ribbon in novice fences, and Maynard supported her in the division with a third-place finish. In novice flat, Seto and junior Caroline Marks (Seattle, Wash.) both placed fifth, and junior Madison Kuhn (Lancaster, Pa.) did not place.
Finishing with walk-trot, Fisher paced the division behind her blue ribbon with juniors Natalia Moriel (Ciudad Juarez, Mexico) and Genoveva Eguiguren (Quito, Ecuador) finishing in third and fourth respectively.
Next, Brown hosts its lone home show of the fall on Sunday, Oct. 16 at Windswept Farm in Warren, R.I.
