Beginner Walk-Trot-Canter Performance Paces Equestrian at URI IHSA Show

GLADES FERRY, Conn. – Brown University equestrian won five blue ribbons in beginner walk-trot-canter to highlight the team's seventh-place finish at the University of Rhode Island IHSA Show at Mystic Valley Hunt Club on Saturday.

The Bears enjoyed a stellar effort in beginner walk-trot-canter beginning with sophomore 2AA rider Roshan Moazed (Brookline, Mass.) who earned the blue ribbon on Patches. Freshman 2AB rider Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.) came in first on Thaddeus, and senior 2AC rider Leah Loerinc (North Dartmouth, Mass.) won the blue on Bentley after pointing up from walk-trot last week.

Continuing the team's success in beginner walk-trot-canter, freshman 2AD rider Rebecca Chernick (Weston, Mass.) garnered first place on Marquis, and junior 2AF rider Alexa Van Hattum (Grand Rapids, Mich.) rounded out the Bears' blue-ribbon-winning performance.

In open fences, sophomore 8A point rider Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.) came in second after receiving a re-ride while junior 8B rider Tess Carter (Tucson, Ariz.) finished in fourth on Flurry, and junior 8C rider Sophia Cohen (Greenwich, Conn.) took home fifth on Cosa.

In intermediate fences, freshman 6A rider Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) did not pin, but sophomore 6B rider Samantha Spear (Chester Springs, Pa.) came in fourth on Flurry.

Moving to novice fences, senior 4A point rider Hannah Estlund (Providence, R.I.) came in third on Gloria, freshman 4B rider Alejandra Zamora (New Canaan, Conn.) finished fifth on Bentley, junior captain and 4C point rider Alisa Berg (St. Louis, Mo.) pinned sixth, and freshman 4C rider Caroline Marks (Seattle, Wash.) earned fourth on Bentley.

Carter pinned fifth on Ronen in open flat in 7A while freshman 7B rider Sydney Munro came in sixth on Gemini, and Baughen did not pin in 7C.

Cohen, the 5A rider, came in fifth on Rowan in intermediate flat while in 5C, Spear took third, Fries came in fourth, and senior Hailey Roumimper (Scotts Valley, Calif.) finished fifth. In 5D, senior point rider Hallee Foster (Menlo Park, Calif.) came in second.

In novice flat, Estlund, the 3A point rider, came in fourth on Cooper, 3B rider Zamora finished third on Froggy, 3D rider Marks took sixth on McCloud, senior captain and 3E rider Meg Hassan (Exeter, N.H.) took gained fifth on Jeremiah, sophomore 3F rider Clara Mae Maynard (Chilmark, Mass.) pinned third on Marquis, senior 3G rider Anna Fass was fourth on Gemini, and freshman 3H rider Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) earned second on Rio.

For advanced walk-trot-canter, sophomore 2BB rider Chloe Hequet (London, England) came in fourth on Bentley while in walk-trot, junior 1A point rider Noel Park (Baton Rouge, La.) pinned third, and in 1B senior Caryn Cobb (Norfolk, Va.) won the class.

Next, Brown hosts its lone home show of the year, in conjunction with Rhode Island College, on Nov. 15 at Phoenix Rising Farm in North Smithfield, R.I.
