PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – Under difficult elements, sophomore Kabisa Baughen won the 5B class in intermediate flat, and Brown University equestrian came in seventh place at the Roger Williams University Show at The Glen on Saturday.
At the show, fence classes allowed only one rider per school per division, leaving each class with all point riders. In open fences Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.), the point rider, rode well on Mary, eventually finishing in fourth.
Baughen, the 5B point rider in intermediate flat, won the class on Bennie and pointed up into open flat after Fries drew a tough draw on Kat.
Junior captain and 3A point rider Elena Buchsbaum (Madison, N.J.) rode Kat to a fifth-place showing in novice flat while sophomore 3C Clara Mae Maynard (Chilmark, Mass.) pinned fourth to give Brown 12 points.
In walk-trot-canter, 2BA rider Chloe Hequet (London, England) came in fifth on Zorra while freshman 2AA point rider Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.) captured second on the same horse to push the Bears' point total to 17.
To close the day in walk-trot, junior 1A rider Noel Park (Baton Rouge, La.) guided Scout to second place, and senior 1C point rider Leah Loerinc (North Dartmouth, Mass.) came in third on LoLo to point up to beginner walk-trot-canter.
