Brown Takes Fifth in UMass Dartmouth Show
TIVERTON, RHODE ISLAND – The Brown equestrian team competed in its first show of the spring season this past Saturday, taking fifth place among the 11 teams that traveled to Claddagh Farm in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Johnson and Wales took the first spot in the team scoring, while URI and Roger Williams rounded out the top three. RIC, Assumption, Becker, Holy Cross, Clark, Salve Regina and UMass Dartmouth also competed in the show.
The first half of the day produced mixed results for the team, but was highlighted by some valuable learning moments and a few stellar trips around the course. In the open fences event, senior Allison Dungey (North Kingstown, RI) placed fourth, while classmate Eleanor Sharpe (Saunderstown, RI) pinned second in the intermediate division. Riding Cappy in the novice fences event, freshman Elena Buchsbaum (Madison, NJ) earned another runner-up finish for the Bears.
Eight of Brown's competitors pinned in the flat events, led by senior Lindsay Wong (Sarasota, FL), who earned a second place finish in class 7A of the open flat division. Sophomore Amanda Picciotto (New York, NY) also competed in 7A, taking fifth, while junior Kelsey Macpherson (Kansas City, MO) earned third place in 7B. In the intermediate flat, Dungey pinned fourth in 5A, senior Alicia Pirraglia (Cranston, RI) took the runner-up spot in 5B and freshman Tess Carter (Tucson, AZ) earned the Bears' first blue ribbon of the day in 5C. Rounding out the flat events, freshman Alisa Berg (St. Louis, MO) pinned first in novice 3C, taking the second win of the day for the Bears, while sophomore Hailey Roumimper (Scotts Valley, CA) finished second in novice 3D.
Freshman Adele Ruppert (Kings Park, NY) placed fifth in class 2BB of Advanced Walk Trot Canter, while freshman Emma Hall (Sheridan, NY) took third place in class 2AA of Beginner Walk Trot Canter. Walk Trot rounded out the day's events and Brown earned two second place finishes, with sophomore Cheyenne Morrin (Kihei, HI) earning the spot in 1A and junior Laura Kirk (Needham, MA) doing the same in class 1B.
The equestrian team will continue its spring season at the Johnson and Wales Show. The competition will be held in Rehoboth, Massachusetts on March 9.
